About Us

Liberty is family owned and operated. Prior to its establishment in 2001, each member of the family was involved in different areas of the hotel industry. Everyone decided to come together and build the award-winning Days Inn – Barrie as its first family project. The second project is the Motel 6 in Kingston and the third project, Liberty North is currently in the works and expected to open in 2011.

The executive team consists of Lesmana Gani (President and father of the family), Stella Gan (Director of Sales & Marketing and eldest daughter), Stefani Choy (Director of Business Development and second eldest daughter), and Stacey Gan (Executive Assistant and youngest daughter).

Lesmana Gani, Ing

Mr. Gani is an engineer, graduated from Akademie Fuer Grafik, Druck Und Werbung, Berlin, Germany, who saw the potential in the hotel industry in the early nineties. He left the printing business and headed a group of investors to invest in a financially troubled 500-room property in the GTA as their first hotel investment. Under his guidance, the hotel was able to turn itself around and became profitable within two years. The group then invested in their second hotel project that also went through major renovations after which it became profitable. From the success of the two hotels, the group was able to build and open the first Hilton Garden Inn in the GTA. Mr. Gani oversaw all aspects of operations, renovations and construction of all the properties. As president of Liberty, his main focus is in the procurement of new sights and projects for the family, as well as the overall management of the company.

Stella Gan, B.Sc, MCSC, A+

After graduating from Hosta École Hoteliere in Leysin, Switzerland, Stella completed her Bachelor of Science, Hotel & Restaurant Management in Boston University. Upon graduation, she completed a two year hotel internship at the Four Seasons Hotel, Vancouver, and the Four Seasons Hotel, Boston. Her hotel career started at the Sheraton Boston Hotel as a guest services agent. In the short three years she was there, Stella was promoted to Sales Manager, focusing on the corporate and tour markets. Upon returning to her hometown, which was in Vancouver, BC then, she returned to the Four Seasons Hotel Vancouver and joined the sales department. As sales manager, she focused on the corporate, tour & travel, as well as the entertainment markets. After three years at the Four Seasons, Stella decided to leave the hotel industry to pursue an education in the then booming technology industry. She obtained her MCSC and A+ certifications at BCIT, Vancouver, and pursued a career as an IT professional for a couple of years with Sierra Systems Group, Vancouver, and McCarthy Tétrault, Toronto. With her extensive background in hotel sales, it was a natural transition for Stella to head the sales and marketing of Liberty. In addition, she is also currently the acting General Manager of the Days Inn – Barrie, as well as the on-site IT technician.

Stefani Choy, B.Com, CA

Stefani is a graduate from the University of British Columbia, Bachelor of Commerce. She articled with KPMG, Vancouver, while obtaining her Chartered Accountant designation. While at KPMG, Stefani specialized in the financial institution and real estate industry. Her clients included MacKenzie Financial, HSBC, Intrawest, Westin Hotels and the Four Seasons Hotel. Just prior to forming Liberty with the family, Stefani assisted her father in the opening of the first Hilton Garden Inn in the GTA. She oversaw the pre-opening and opening of the hotel. In addition to helping her father with the development of new businesses for Liberty, Stefani also heads the accounting department as well as oversees the overall operations of the Days Inn – Barrie.

Stacey Gan, BA
Stacey is a recent graduate from the University of Toronto, Bachelor of Arts. Throughout her school years, she worked at the Best Western Carlton Place Hotel Toronto Airport in the accounting department. Stacey plays a key role in the office administration and organization of the Days Inn – Barrie.
